A plane travelling at 25.1 m/s is brought to rest in a distance of 102 meters. To the nearest hundredth of a m/s2 what is the magnitude of its acceleration? If the mass of the plane in the previous problem is 1.01x105 kg to the nearest newton what is the magnitude of the retarding force?

final v = 0

u = 25.1 m/sec

v^2 - u^2 = 2as

u^2 /2s = a

so a = -3.09 m/sec^2

negitive sign for retardation

F = MA

F = 1.01 * 3.09 * 10^5 = 3.119 * 10^5 N
