A ray in glass is incident onto a water-glass interface. The angle of incidence equals half the critical angle for that interface. The index of refraction for water is 1.33 and for glass is 1.78. What is the angle that the refracted ray in the water makes with the normal?

Ray is moving from glass to water
sin critical angle= n (water)/ n (glass)
sin critical angle = 1.33/1.78
critical angle=48.35 degree

Angle of incidence, i = 48.35/2=24.17 degree

use, snells law
n (glass) * sin i = n(water) * sin r
1.78 * sin 24.17 = 1.33 * sin r
r= 33 degree
Ans: 33 degree
