A sled of mass m=20kg is sliding down a slide. At the top of the

slide it is given a speed v=4m/s. While sliding down it loses 300J

of energy because of friction and it reaches the bottom having

speed 7m/s. What is the vertical height of the slide?

A) 0.15 m B) 1.65 m C) 3.15 m D) 5.5 m E) 8 m

from conservation of energy principle

Work done due to other forces = change in mechnical

energy

W = (K2-K1) mgH

- 300 = 0.5*20(7^2-4^2) 20*9.8H

H = 630/(20*9.8) = 3.15 m

Ans : C) 3.15 m
