A bob of mass m=.250 kg is suspended from a fixed point with a

massless string of length L= 25.0 cm. You will investigate the

motion in which the string traces a conical surfacewith half angle

theta=18.0 degrees. What tangetial speed v must the bob have so

that it moves in a horizontal circle with the string making an

angle 18.0 degrees with the vertical? so v=?????m/s I have tried

4.8 and 4.96

here horizontal component of tension provides centripetal

force

so Tsin18 =mv2/r-----------1 (r=lsin18=)

Tcos18=mg---------------2(vertically net

force shiuld be zero)

devide both the equations we

get

tan18=v2/rg => v= .496m/s
