(a) An orange crate of mass M is at rest on an icy surface. One cord connects the crate to a wall. A second cord oasses over a frictionless rod and suspends another crate of equal mass. What is the tension in each cord ?
 (b) If the cord between the orange crate and the wall is replaced by a spring with spring constant k and unstretched length l, how far is the orange crate from the wall?

a) both tensions will be   M*g

b) let x is the extension of the spring.

k*x = M*g

==> x = M*g/k

so, distnace between and crate and wall is L + M*g/k
