Two metal disks, each having an area of 20cm^2, are separated by a 0.2mm thick peice of glass and charged to a potential difference of 1000V. This particular type of glass has a dielectric contant K=5. (include units in all answers)

A) How much charge does the capacitor store?

B) What is the magnitude of the electric feild produced by the charges on the metal plates?

C) What is the magnitude of the electric field produced by the induced charges on the glass?

Part A)
C = keA/d
C = (5)(8.85 X 10-12)(.002)/(2 X 10-4)
C = 4.425 X 10-10 F
Q = CV
Q = (4.425 X 10-10)(1000)
Q = 4.425 X 10-7 C

Part B)
V = Ed
E = 1000/(2 X 10-4)
E = 5.0 X 106 V/m

Part C)
The same value, but in the opposite direction
Your key may want that as a negative...
E = -5.0 X 106 V/m
