Two objects (42.0 and 24.4 kg) are connected by a massless string that passes over a massless, frictionless pulley. The pulley hangs from the ceiling. Find the acceleration of the objects and the tension in the string.

acceleration of the objects = (m2-m1)*g/(m1+m2)

= (42 - 24.4)*9.81 / ( 42 + 24.4) = 2.6 m/s^2

tension in the string = 2*m1*m2*g/(m1+m2)

= 2*42*24.4*9.81/(24.4+42) = 302.81 N
