A football is kicked straight up into the air; it hits the ground 3.4s later. What was the greatest height reached by the ball? Assume it is kicked from the ground level. With what speed did it leave the kickers foot? Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units.

time for upward movement = 3.4/2 = 1.7 sec

So initial velocity = 9.8*1.7 = 16.66 m/s = 17 m/s

max height = 16.66^2/2*9.8 = 14.16 m = 14m
