Determine the speed, wavelength, and frequency of light from a helium-neon laser as it travels through diamond. The wavelength of the light from the laser is 632.8 nm in air and the index of refraction of diamond is 2.419.

speed = m/s

wavelength = nm

frequency = Hz

where c: speed of light

v : velocity in medium

n :refractive index of medium

v=c/n = 3*108/2.419 =1.24*108m/s

frequncy in the medium = frequency in air = c/lambda = 3*108 / 632.8*10-9 = 474*1012 Hz

wavelength in medium = wave length in air/ refractive index of medium = 632.8nm /2.419 = 261.595nm
